Chairmans Message
J WoodcliffeIT was at one of our regular committee meetings hosted generously as always by Gordon and Jan Coulthard, in 2002 that our secretary Tom Hendry made a throw away remark that the Club will have been formed 40 years in 2003 and would it not be a good idea to write a history of those years. As all the members, except Lance Kinder who was by this time high on coffee, had all had a pint and a half of beer and were just about to finish the sandwiches, we all readily agreed. That was the easy part . . .

It was a sound idea and we have all had a lot of fun delving into the past. Many members have been kind with supporting articles and information and I am sure you will find something of interest and often perhaps, reminders of names or happy occasions. We have done our best to be accurate but if names have been missed out or mis-spelt, or you consider an error of fact has been made please excuse us, we have all spent a lot of time on the task which we have enjoyed but information or records have not all been easy to obtain.

Particular thanks to Nigel Belle who has led the team, to Jane Belle, Tom Hendry, Lance and Jacqui Kinder, Brenda Westrup and Terry, my wife, for their ideas, research, and finally, for their invaluable help in getting a quart of information into a financially acceptable pint pot.

A note about the Club. The Club is flourishing with over 650 members; many play in the annual tournament, go on tours or play in the frequent friendly games that are organised. Others are happy to keep in touch by watching matches, attending the AGM or reading about the Club in our newsletters. To all of you, thank you for your support and I hope you continue to enjoy the camaraderie we all share.

Finally a big thank you to all past and present committee members, match managers and tour organisers for all the work they have done to make our Club a great one to belong to.
